Employee well-being: how and why to monitor it with AI

Artificial Intelligence solutions

Employee well-being is one of the key factors for a company’s long-term success. According to the results of the worker survey conducted by the Observatory in collaboration with BVA Doxa, only 9% of Italians report feeling well in their current job, considering the three dimensions of well-being: physical, psychological, and relational.

Why is it important to monitor employee well-being? Organizations that invest in improving working conditions and supporting the physical and mental well-being of their employees tend to achieve better results in terms of productivity, satisfaction, and employee retention.

Employee well-being can be monitored using AI tools that enable data collection, behavior analysis, and the prevention of distressing situations.

How to Monitor Employee Well-being with Artificial Intelligence

AI-based technologies offer numerous tools to collect real-time information on employee well-being and analyze this data in depth. Monitoring productivity and workloads, or using predictive techniques to anticipate stress or discomfort before they become evident, are just some examples of how AI solutions can be leveraged to improve employee well-being.

As part of the FAIR project, Revelis is developing the InCoP platform, which integrates AI methodologies, the Internet of Everything (IoE), and intelligent industrial automation to enable effective employee well-being monitoring.

InCoP will be applied in the production environment of Target S.p.A., a company specializing in baked goods such as bread, pizza and snacks. The use of this platform will allow:

  • Improved efficiency and flexibility in the production process by creating a smarter manufacturing system capable of learning from data and continuously enhancing its performance.
  • Mass product customization, revolutionizing how products are designed and manufactured by shifting from a standardized production model to one focused on personalization and customer satisfaction.

Specifically, the InCoP solution will implement the Internet of Everything (IoE) paradigm—an evolution of the Internet of Things (IoT)—to connect people, processes, information, and objects within a single, interoperable ecosystem. Additionally, it will employ Machine Learning and Deep Learning techniques to train predictive models for mass customization, providing businesses with decision-making support to create tailored products and services for each customer.

Finally, through Answer Set Programming techniques, InCoP will:

  • Assist company personnel in performing tasks by providing personalized guidance and recommendations to optimize their work.
  • Reduce work time.
  • Improve operational efficiency.
  • Lower production costs.
  • Decrease the risk of workplace injuries.

The Benefits of AI in Monitoring Employee Well-being

The adoption of artificial intelligence to monitor employee well-being offers numerous advantages to businesses, including:

  • Prevention: AI enables early intervention before issues become severe, reducing the risk of burnout and stress-related illnesses.
  • Personalization: Every employee has different needs, and AI allows for tailored solutions based on collected data, improving the quality of support provided.
  • Efficiency: AI-driven solutions enable continuous monitoring of well-being without overburdening managers with the manual collection and analysis of data.
  • Flexibility: These platforms can be adapted to different business needs, from small enterprises to large organizations, ensuring that companies of all sizes can benefit from these innovative tools.

Conclusion

Employee well-being is a key factor in business success, and AI-based solutions are powerful tools for monitoring it accurately and in real time. In a world driven by digital transformation, companies can now not only collect more accurate and comprehensive data on employee health but also take preventive actions to enhance their well-being.
